Shared Gardens

ADEP's shared gardens are a place for training and raising awareness of sustainable development.

Objectives / Activities

  • creating, networking, eating and growing organic food.
  • DIY, gardening and learning.

Installation

ADEP's shared gardens include five large growing containers designed to provide "sustainable development" training for the public in Roubaix.

We've noticed that our audience can't put their learning to good use because they don't have the space to grow their own vegetables/fruit or raise chickens. The latest exchanges with our audience indicate a need to highlight good sustainable development practices, without necessarily needing to raise animals or have the space for a compost bin at home.

When?

18/5/2022 from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

25/5/2022 from 9h00 to 12h00 and from 14h00 to 17h00

What do we want?

We want to expand our ambitions and become a showcase for this theme, which the city of Roubaix has been actively developing for several years. The venue is perfectly suited to this, a schoolyard concreted over for several decades and then broken up to become once again a place for sharing and education about future climate change.

Sustainable development

To overcome this problem, ADEP wants to reorganize its shared gardens, so that the space can be used in its entirety by and for the people of Roubaix, in an educational and playful context. A green setting invented around a key point: sustainable development.

Creating the garden

The creation of the garden was the subject of 4 or 5 weekends of participative workcamps open to all, where everyone could get their hands dirty. The Maison du Jardin association, which already had experience of participative workcamps, was familiar with the logistics of such an organization.
A first session of garden landscaping has been completed by the association, and a second is now open!

Workshops may be cancelled or postponed depending on the weather. We'll keep you informed by e-mail, via our website or our Facebook page. Don't hesitate to ask us any questions you may have. Thank you for your support and see you soon.
A shared garden is a garden that is designed, built and cultivated by several people. It offers everyone the chance to work together on a common project. It's a convivial place for local residents.

Ideally, a shared garden is a fulfilling place where everyone can enrich themselves through contact with others, while rediscovering an awareness of nature's cycles, respect for the earth and the importance of healthy, local, environmentally-friendly food.

Located in a former playground transformed thanks to citizen initiatives, the shared gardens of ADEP (Association pour le Développement de l'Education Permanente) have made it possible to invest in sustainable development in the city.
